The refugee’s route is a journalistic reportage which begins in the southern Italian island of Lampedusa where, on 3 October 2013 around 400 young Eritreans died in a shipwreck.
To avoid such tragedies, in 2017 the Italian Bishop Conference of the Catholic Church signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian Ministry of Interior to support the legal and safe arrival in Italy of 500 migrants who are in a condition of proven vulnerability.
Cameras followed the stories of three Eritrean refugees for two years: from the refugee camp in the desert of Ethiopia to the Catholic dioceses in Italy. And then, integration: a route full of hope and solidarity but sometimes really difficult.

People, not only migrants – as the Pope usually repeats: a blind boy who is now studying at the University of Perugia with excellent results, a woman victim of abuse who found a job in Assisi, where she was welcome with love and a father who finally saw his five children studying.
Talking about migrants means touching the story of people who are simply looking for a better future.
